2017
Early 2017: Ideation
Late 2017: Prototype
After creating the first prototype, The Graph is announced to the public and starts seeing some early growth.
2018
June 2018: Introduction of The Graph
We’re so excited to be announcing The Graph! 🗿✨ A decentralized query protocol for blockchains. The Graph lets you build dApps more easily on Ethereum and IPFS using GraphQL. Together we can build a new generation of the web free from monopolies. https://t.co/CRn36kuF2B

July 2018: Growth of the Team and Community
August 2018: Open Sourcing the Protocol
2019 sees some exciting early adoption and further growth of The Graph.
2019
January 2019: Graph Day
The first Graph Day was held in January 2019. The event featured many speakers ranging from developers, CEOs/CTOs, and founders from Ethereum, NEAR, Livepeer, Compound, and Decentraland.
January 2019: $2.5M Seed Round
February 2019: Launch of Graph Explorer
Graph Explorer is launched, making it easy for anyone to discover the data being indexed on The Graph network and pull it into dApps.
The launch partners of the explorer were:
- Dharma
- Compound
- Uniswap
- ENS
- Origin
- Decentraland
- Livepeer
The subgraphs of the launch partners became publicly available on The Graph for third-party developers to access.
March 2019: Introduction to GraphQL
May 2019: First Hackathon
October 2019: The Graph Network In Depth
After introducing The Graph in July of 2018, the design of the first version of The Graph Network is published in detail.
December 2019: Subgraph Showcases
2020 marks the mainnet launch of The Graph Network.
2020
May 2020: Everest Launches
Everest is The Graph’s first decentralized application and was launched in May 2020. It is a universal registry for crypto projects.
June 2020: $5M Fundraising Round
July 2020: 1 Billion Monthly Queries
September 2020: More than 200 Indexer Nodes Deployed
Today we kicked off Phase 1 of Mission Control - The Graph's incentivized testnet!

September 2020: Introducing the GRT Token and its Tokenomics
October 2020: Launch of The Graph Foundation
October 2020: Public Sale Sells out at $12M
October 2020: The Graph Council is Introduced
The Graph’s decentralized network is governed by The Graph Council. The council balances the interests of five core stakeholder groups: Indexers, active token holders, the initial team, users and technical domain experts.
December 2020: Mainnet Launch

2021 saw further growth of the network and added support for additional blockchains. Additionally, multiple new core developer teams joined The Graph Network.

March 2021: Wave 1 Grants
The Graph Foundation allocates over $5M to grants and ecosystem support in its first wave of grants.
April 2021: The 10 First Subgraphs Migrating to the Decentralized Network
Audius, DODO, Enzyme, Omen, Livepeer, mStable, Opyn, PoolTogether, Reflexer, and UMA are the first 10 subgraphs migrating to The Graph Network mainnet.
May 2021: The Graph Surpasses 20 Billion Queries
The Graph’s hosted service has been serving dapps for over two years & has come so far 📈

June 2021: $60 Million Core Dev Grant for StreamingFast
StreamingFast joins the network as a core developer team. The $60M Core Dev Grant was the first grant of its kind, pioneering collaborative innovation.

October 2021: Wave 3 Grants
The Graph Foundation allocates over $1.5M to grants and ecosystem support in its third wave of grants. In total, over $9 million to over 100 grantees was allocated in Waves 1, 2, and 3.
December 2021: $60 Million Core Dev Grant for Semiotic AI

2022 saw several exciting community initiatives, such as the launch of the Advocates DAO. Additionally, a roadmap for sunsetting the Hosted Service was introduced.

The Graph Foundation allocates over $1.72M to grants and ecosystem support in its fourth wave of grants.
March 2022: Subgraph Migration in Full Swing
March 2022: The Graph R&D Roadmap is Introduced
April 2022: Launch of Graph AdvocatesDAO
The Graph AdvocatesDAO acts as the community governing body for overseeing membership and contributions of the Graph Advocates Program and community grants. The initial cohort consists of 20 members.
