Lesson 1 – What is The Graph?
The Graph is a decentralized indexing protocol. Similar to a search engine, The Graph indexes data and makes it searchable/usable for others.
While search engines index websites and their content for internet users, The Graph indexes blockchain data and makes it available for developers of decentralized applications (dApps).
These developers then use the data for a variety of different functions within their applications.
Without The Graph, projects like Uniswap would have to run their own proprietary indexing servers, which requires significant engineering and hardware resources. Thanks to The Graph Network, it is now possible to query networks like Ethereum, Polkadot, IPFS and many more, without proprietary indexing servers.
